A free Tiny 2D6 RPG System for Fast, Narrative-Driven Adventures

Inspired by tiny solitary soldiers homebrew system.

Made by me: Hogash! :) :) :)

If you want a lightweight, story-first tabletop RPG you can use for group or solo play, here’s a full mini-system you can run with nothing more than a few d6. It takes five minutes to learn, plays fast, and stays focused on the fiction.

Let’s dive in.

0. Build the world

This step can be as complex or as simple as you like. Imagine the world the Hero is in, if the world seems too big just think about its sorroundings (room, neighborhood, province, kingdom, planet, whatever you find suitable). Examples: Fantasy world, the world of Skyrim, a Tavern, a ruined tower, the dark forest of X, alien spaceship.
World example:

Cargo-ship MARA-455

Type: Cargo Freighter. Status: Damaged, partially powered, contaminated by alien organisms.

1. Build Your Hero

Start by imagining your hero—maybe inspired by a movie, book, folklore, or just something cool in your head—and give them a name.

Traits: Your Feats & Flaws

Write down a list of at least:

  • 1-2 starting Feats (things your hero is generally good at)

  • 1-2 starting Flaws (things your hero mostly struggles with)

  • 1-2 starting Key-features (behavior, occupation, personality traits)

These can be practical, mental, or thematic. Don't require to be sub-divided.

Examples of Feats:

  • Expert Climber, Elf senses: Can see in the dark, Sharp Senses

Examples of Flaws:

  • Hot-Headed, Young and Inexperienced, Poor Aim, Fragile Body

Examples of Key-features:
  • Spaceship engineer, young, Elf, elder, historian, warrior, carpenter, tinker

A trait is not always purely good or bad: “elder” lowers agility but grants wisdom; “Young” boosts speed and agility but might hurts insight and knowledge.

Hero example:

ROXANNE — Spaceship Engineer (MARA-455)
*Ability: Survival instincts (Second Wind) — At 0 LE, instantly recover to 1 LE once per session. *abilities are optional (See Optional rule: Abilities)
LE: 6
TRAITS:
Mechanical Intuition (understands machines, failures, systems)
Improvised Tools (creates makeshift weapons/repairs under stress)
Cryo Disorientation (slow reactions, shaky focus)
Claustrophobic (tight spaces hinder her)
Spaceship Engineer
Resourceful

1.2 Create a situation

As soon as you create the world you'll need a situation, a starting scene! To do so use the twist tables below (see Oracles), interpret it according to the setting, the world and your hero. Example:
World: abandoned cargo space ship. Hero: a spaceship engineer. Situation: NPC + hinders the Hero. You might interpret it as follows:
Roxanne, the spaceship engineer of the cargo-ship called MARA-455 wakes up from the cryo chamber. As she wakes up she sees nothing but destroyed devices and bloody goo covering the floor. Suddenly, doctor Wuang, bounces at her from the ceiling, strange filaments come out of his nostrils while his mantis-like eyes stares at her.

A GIFT FIT FOR A LADY - Trying my brand new minimal RPG solo

The First Adventure of Sir Garran of Thunderbluff

(Solo RPG Session Report + stress-test of my lite-rpg)

(Played with my homebrew RPG system, using the Mythic GM Emulator and a few random tables inspired by Ironsworn. Character and place names were generated using an online fantasy name generator — except Thunderbluff, which, yes, is a loving nod to the World of Warcraft franchise.)

I re-write the adventures notes without rolls and oracles for the pleasure of narrating something. I divided the thing in small chapters. And yes, i'm writing in english now hehe.

A Bad Idea: The Hydra Hunt

I finally took my 1D6 RPG for a solo spin with my Level 1 hero: Sir Garran of Thunderbluff — swordsman, part-time mercenary, full-time disaster.

Armed with sword, shield, a cracked spear-torch (flammable tip) given by a farmer, 2 potions, and reckless courage, Garran set out to prove his worth.

SOLO rules apply: more HP and 1 additional proficiency.

He began his career the way all great heroes do — terrified, alone, and face-to-face with a three-headed hydra terrifying the village of Steamhaven.

Villagers followed him just to the Thermal swamp’s edge, shouting wisdom like:

“Use fire against that thing!”
“If it eats you, count to ten — you’ll feel less pain!”

“I don’t like hydras” Garran muttered, gripping his torch-spear.
